To control moles is like playing a game of whack-a-mole, and Mole catchers such as myself know how to win.
Firstly, how can I tell if I have moles?
Molehills, Mole Tunnels and Mole runways.
Molehills are their telltale sign; if left unchecked, they can become runways and more extensive tunnels.
Mole Tunnels are precisely that. The mole will often pile up the dirt taken out of the tunnel on either side of the track, looking much like a small volcano. There are typically two piles of soil outside the entrance, and it’s a good place for me to put a trap.
Mole Runways are like roads on which they travel; you’ll often spot them by the moles wearing down grass in one area of your garden or lawns’ surface. You may even notice damage to your plants. Runways will surround molehills where the moles burrow.

What is the best mole deterrent?
There is no definitive answer to this question other than swift action. However, I use Mole Traps in a strategic manner that means that they don’t come back. Here’s how I do that:
Mole control experts will use a ‘live mole trap’ technique, where they find the mole’s tunnel exit once it has surfaced for food to trap them.
Mole tunnels usually have two openings, one at each end. However, sometimes they have three tunnels going down with holes on the surface of each tunnel. So I place a trap here also.
The active moles will come up from their deep tunnels, and I find them by looking for new holes and putting the bait on the ground. Then I set traps near those places to catch them as they move through their tunnels or when they surface.
What should I not do?
Do not use any poison, mole repellents (even natural repellents such as castor oil), or costly commercial mole traps yourself. They will often go wrong or have no effect.
You should also never try to dig them out of their tunnel yourself with a spade because you won’t find anything but soil, earthworms and insects!
Usually, Mole catchers like myself will often set up traps below ground level or just above it to catch the Moles alive in a Mole trap without ever harming them.
Do moles harm humans?
Moles are solitary animals and tend to avoid humans. Still, these small mammals can pose a health hazard to people with allergies. These creatures also carry common diseases such as rabies or Lyme disease.
Think of this animal in terms of the damage they create and understand that moles can become a health threat if you suffer from allergies, but they aren’t man-killing moles.

When are moles active?
